How to create and set up a Twitter Ads account for Twitter Insights

As you may know, Twitter changed its API pricing policies and this affected Dataslayer's Twitter connectors. In this article we will explain the details.

Because Twitter changed its API pricing policies, in order to use our Twitter Insights connector, you will need to have a Twitter Ads account. In this article, we will guide you on how to set up a Twitter Ads account step by step.

Due to the new Twitter API policies, the Dataslayer Twitter Insights connector is only available on paid plans, so it is not active for Free Plan users. This does not affect the Twitter Ads connector.

Creating and setting up a Twitter Ads account

The first thing you have to do it's to complete your Twitter account profile.

There are a few requirements that your account must meet in order to participate in Twitter Ads. This requirement includes having a profile and background picture, the location, and a bio with a valid URL to one website.

Learn more about the requirements with Twitter's support.

Once you have your profile completed, let's create a Twitter Ads account.

Please keep in mind that there is a review process by Twitter so after following these steps, it may take some time for the account to be approved.

  1.  Log in to the Twitter Ads portal and select a country and a time zone.

  2. Follow Twitter's steps to set up a campaign and ad.

  3. Add the billing info.

  4. Once done, finish the setup.

Adding the billing info is mandatory, but you don't need to make the purchase. The campaign can be stopped immediately after the setup is completed so that you will not be charged for it.

Now that you have created the Ads account, let's add the tax information and set up the permissions.

5. Again, on the Twitter Ads portal, click on your account name (at the top right-hand corner) and select Account Settings.

6. Select Tax information and tax status, and add all your contact information. Once done click on Save.

7. Finally, click again on your account name on the Twitter Ads portal and select Edit access to your account.

8. Click on Edit access, check the Can compose promotable tweets box, and save.

Done! Now you will be able to see that your account has the "Running" status and you will be able to see more information than analytics.
