Does Excel have cells number limits?

When working with large datasets, Excel can handle much larger volumes of data compared to Google Sheets. However, it's essential to remember the cell limits in Excel.

Excel has a limit on the number of rows, columns, and total cells that can be contained within a single worksheet. The specific limits vary based on the version of Excel you're using. For Excel 2007 and later, including Office 365, the capacity is:

  • Rows: 1,048,576
  • Columns: 16,384 - ranging from column A to XFD

This results in a total of over 17 billion cells (17,179,869,184) per worksheet.

While these limits might seem vast, they are worth considering when handling extremely large datasets.

For typical marketing reports or data analysis, Excel's capacity is usually more than sufficient.
