How Do I Connect Dataslayer MCP to Copilot Studio?

Microsoft Copilot Studio lets you build custom agents and extend them with external tools through the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

By adding Dataslayer as a remote MCP server, your agent can access and analyze marketing data from Google Ads, Meta Ads, GA4, and other data sources connected to your Dataslayer account.

What You'll Need Before Starting

Before connecting Dataslayer MCP, make sure you have:

Access to Microsoft Copilot Studio with the appropriate permissions and licensing to create agents.
A Power Platform environment with a Dataverse database.
An existing Copilot Studio agent, or permission to create one.
Permission to create connections/tools in your Power Platform environment.
An active Dataslayer account with at least one connected data source.

Can't see your environment in Copilot Studio?
Make sure the Power Platform environment has a Dataverse database. Environments without a database might not appear in Copilot Studio.

Copilot Studio currently supports the Streamable transport type for MCP. Dataslayer's MCP server is compatible with this transport.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Open or create your agent

Go to Microsoft Copilot Studio, select the Power Platform environment you want to use, and open an existing agent or create a new one.

2. Add an MCP tool

Inside your agent:

Go to Tools.
Select + / Add a tool.
Select Model Context Protocol (MCP).

The exact button wording might vary slightly depending on your Copilot Studio interface.

3. Enter the Dataslayer MCP server details

Enter the following information:

Server name: Dataslayer MCP, or any name you prefer.
Server description: Enter any description you prefer for the Dataslayer MCP server.
Server URL: https://agents.dataslayer.ai/mcp
Authentication: OAuth 2.0
Configuration type: Dynamic (with discovery)

Then select Add.

With Dynamic (with discovery), Copilot Studio automatically discovers Dataslayer's OAuth configuration, so you don't need to manually enter authorization URLs, token URLs, Client IDs, or Client Secrets.

4. Create the Dataslayer connection

When Copilot Studio asks you to select a connection:

Select Create new connection.
Optionally enter a display name, such as Dataslayer MCP.
Select Create.

5. Authenticate with Dataslayer

Copilot Studio will redirect you to the Dataslayer authentication page.

Once authentication is complete, return to Copilot Studio.

6. Add Dataslayer MCP to your agent

Once the Dataslayer connection appears as connected:

Select the connection.
Click Add.

Copilot Studio will add the Dataslayer MCP server and make its available tools accessible to your agent.

7. Save and publish

Save your changes and publish the agent to your preferred channel.

For internal testing or demonstrations, you can use Copilot Studio's Demo website.

Optional: Test the Connection

You can confirm that Dataslayer MCP is working by asking your agent something like:

Using Dataslayer, pull my Google Ads spend for the last 7 days.

If everything is configured correctly, the agent should use Dataslayer to retrieve the requested data.

Best Practices

For better results, be specific about what you want Dataslayer to retrieve:

Mention the data source you want to use.
Specify the metrics and dimensions you need.
Include the date range.
Specify the account if you have multiple accounts connected.
Include any filters or grouping requirements.

For example:

Using Dataslayer, retrieve my Meta Ads data for account "{YOUR-ACCOUNT-NAME}" for September 2026. Show spend, impressions, CPC, and conversions grouped by campaign name, sorted by spend from highest to lowest.

Instead of a more general request such as:

Show me my Meta data.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

My Power Platform environment doesn't appear in Copilot Studio
Make sure the environment has a Dataverse database and that you have permission to access it.

I can't find Model Context Protocol (MCP)
Make sure you're inside an agent and go to Tools → + / Add a tool → Model Context Protocol (MCP). Also verify that your Copilot Studio licensing and environment permissions allow you to create tools and connections.

The connection fails
Check that the Server URL is exactly:

https://agents.dataslayer.ai/mcp

Make sure there are no extra spaces or changes to the URL.

Authentication doesn't open correctly
Make sure you selected:

Authentication: OAuth 2.0
Configuration type: Dynamic (with discovery)

Then create a new connection again.

Dataslayer login fails
Verify your Dataslayer credentials and try reconnecting.

The connection is blocked by a policy
MCP connections in Copilot Studio use Power Platform connectors. Your organization's data policies might restrict the connection. Contact your Power Platform administrator if necessary.

The agent doesn't use Dataslayer
Make sure Dataslayer MCP has been added to the agent and that your changes have been saved.

You can also make your agent instructions more explicit by telling it to use Dataslayer whenever users request marketing data.

Authentication and Security

Dataslayer MCP uses OAuth authentication, so users authenticate directly with their Dataslayer account rather than providing their Dataslayer password to the agent.

Access through the MCP connection is associated with the Dataslayer account used during authentication and its corresponding permissions.

Depending on how the Copilot Studio agent is shared or deployed, other users might be asked to authenticate with their own Dataslayer account before using Dataslayer MCP tools.
