How Do I Connect Dataslayer MCP to Copilot Studio?

Microsoft Copilot Studio lets you build custom agents and extend them with external tools through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). By adding Dataslayer as a remote MCP server, your agent can query your marketing data directly, pulling metrics from Google Ads, Meta Ads, GA4, and every other source connected to your Dataslayer account. MCP support is generally available in Copilot Studio.

What You'll Need Before Starting

  • Access to Microsoft Copilot Studio with the appropriate Microsoft 365 Copilot / Copilot Studio licensing to create and publish agents.
  • An existing agent: the MCP server is added as a tool inside an agent you've already created (or create a new one first).
  • Permission to create connectors: access to MCP servers in Copilot Studio runs through Power Platform connectors, so you (or your admin) need permission to create connections in your environment. If a data loss prevention (DLP) policy governs Power Platform connectors, it also applies here.
  • An active Dataslayer account with at least one data source connected.
Copilot Studio uses the streamable transport type for MCP (SSE is no longer supported). Dataslayer's MCP server is compatible.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Open your agent and go to Tools

  • In Copilot Studio, open the agent you want to connect (or create a new one).
  • Go to the Tools page for that agent.

2. Launch the MCP onboarding wizard

  • Select Add a tool, then New tool.
  • Choose Model Context Protocol to launch the MCP onboarding wizard.

3. Enter the Dataslayer server details

  • Server name: Enter "Dataslayer" (or any name you prefer)
  • Server description: Optional. E.g., "Marketing data via Dataslayer"
  • Server URL: Copy and paste this address exactly: https://agents.dataslayer.ai/mcp
  • Authentication: Select whichever authentication type applies to your setup (OAuth)
  • Create the connection.

4. Authenticate with Dataslayer

  • When prompted, log in with your Dataslayer credentials to authorize the connection.
  • Your marketing platform credentials are never shared, authentication happens directly between you and Dataslayer.

5. Use the tools in your agent

  • Once the connection is active, Copilot Studio automatically detects the tools available through the Dataslayer MCP server.
  • Add the tool to your agent and save/publish the agent so the changes take effect.
  • You can now use Dataslayer directly in your agent.

6. Test it

Ask your agent something like:

Using Dataslayer, pull my Google Ads spend for the last 7 days.

If everything is set up correctly, the agent will fetch your data and return the results.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

  • Can't find the Model Context Protocol option: confirm your Copilot Studio licensing and that you have permission to create tools/connectors in your environment.
  • Connection fails: check the Server URL is exactly https://agents.dataslayer.ai/mcp, with no extra spaces.
  • Blocked by a policy: access runs through Power Platform connectors, a tenant DLP policy may block it; check with your admin.
  • Transport errors: make sure the connection uses the streamable transport type (SSE is no longer supported).
  • Authentication doesn't complete: verify your Dataslayer credentials; reset your password if needed and reconnect.
  • The agent doesn't use the tool: make sure you added the tool to the agent and published it.
