Meta API Update to v22: Important Changes to Facebook and Instagram Connectors

Starting April 8th, 2025, all Dataslayer connectors related to the Meta API will be upgraded to version 22 (v22). This update comes directly from Meta and introduces several changes that may affect your current data queries and dashboards.

We’ve summarized the key updates for each connector below:

Facebook Ads

  • The metric Promoted post Instagram story ID is now deprecated and will no longer be available.

Facebook Insights

  • No changes have been introduced in this connector.

Facebook Public Data

  • No updates in this version. Reels data is still not available.

Instagram Insights – Important Changes

❌ Metrics that will be removed:

  • Reel replays

  • Reel plays

  • Reel initial plays

These metrics will return an error in your queries if still used. Please remove them to avoid issues.

🔄 Metrics with new names:

Old Name New Name
Profile Impressions Profile Views
Media Impressions Media Views
Reel Total Plays Reel Views
Carousel Impressions Carousel Views
Story Impressions Story Views

⚠️ Note about Profile Views: This metric currently does not support time dimensions. Queries that include a time dimension along with “Profile Views” may return an error.

Behavior in BigQuery

  • Deleted metrics will throw an error.

    • For append and upsert operations, Dataslayer will insert null values for these metrics.

    • For replace operations, queries will be created from scratch, without the deprecated metrics.

  • Renamed metrics:

    • In append and upsert operations, existing queries will continue to use the old metric names.

    • In replace operations and for new queries, the new metric names will be used automatically.

We recommend reviewing your active queries and dashboards using Instagram Insights to ensure they do not rely on deprecated metrics and are prepared for the new naming conventions.
