You may have encountered an error message such as the following when making your queries:
- Incompatible fields
- These metrics and dimensions can't be fetched together
- Invalid parameters combination
Why does this error appear?
This error is external to Dataslayer and comes directly from the data source you are using (Facebook, Bing, TikTok, Google Ads, etc).
The data that Dataslayer receives is directly calculated and sent by the official APIs of each data source. Each data source has its limitations, and there are combinations of metrics and dimensions that are not allowed, although in Dataslayer it is possible to select them.
That is why when you make your query, the servers of the data source you are using (Facebook, Bing, TikTok, Google Ads, etc) return this error, to tell you that the combination you have selected cannot be made.
Can this error be fixed?
1 In some cases, the error itself will tell you which metric/dimension or combination of metrics/dimensions is causing the incompatibility, in this case just remove it from the query.
2 On other occasions this information is not available, so we recommend trying manually to find the field that is producing the incompatibility and remove it from the query.
Being an external error to Dataslayer, these incompatibilities depend directly on each data source, and it is possible that they may change over time due to updates, or even disappear.
