Understanding the Sync Frequencies in the Google Cloud Storage Destination

Learn the sync frequency options for Dataslayer’s Google Cloud Storage: Scheduled, Manual and Manually Split. Understand when to use each.

When exporting your marketing data to Google Cloud Storage (GCS) with Dataslayer, you can choose between different sync frequency options depending on your business needs.

With Dataslayer, you can easily automate the transfer of advertising and analytics data into GCS buckets. Whether you are creating a data pipeline, or storing historical datasets for compliance and backup, selecting the right sync frequency will ensure optimal performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.

In this guide, we explain the different Google Cloud Storage sync frequencies available in Dataslayer so you can choose the option that best fits your workflow.

Scheduled Syncs in Google Cloud Storage

The Scheduled Sync option allows you to set up automatic, periodic uploads of your data into your GCS bucket.

This option is ideal if you want your marketing data to stay up to date without manual intervention. Once configured, Dataslayer handles the synchronization automatically, making sure your cloud storage always reflects the latest information.

Best for:

  • Automating daily or weekly data exports

  • Keeping GCS in sync with Google Analytics, Facebook Ads, or other marketing platforms

  • Maintaining fresh datasets for BI tools and dashboards

Manual Sync for Google Cloud Storage

If you only need occasional exports or are working with smaller datasets, the Manual Sync option gives you full control. You can trigger the upload whenever you need it, and all selected data will be pushed to GCS at once.

This method is particularly useful when testing, running ad hoc reports, or exporting a limited date range.

Best for:

  • One-time exports (e.g., last month’s performance)

  • Testing your Dataslayer–GCS connection

  • Uploading small volumes of marketing data

GCS - Manually Sync (1)

Manually Split Sync for Google Cloud Storage

When working with large volumes of marketing data (such as more than a year, multiple accounts, or very detailed daily information), the Manually Split Sync option ensures stable and reliable uploads.

This function automatically divides your query into smaller chunks and sends them to GCS sequentially. By splitting the data, it prevents errors, interruptions, or timeouts that can happen with very large exports.

Important: This option is only available if your query includes temporal dimensions (for example, a date dimension).

When this option is selected, the query may take a long time to execute; therefore, it will continue to run even if the browser is closed.

Best for:

  • Multi-year historical datasets

  • Accounts with very detailed daily metrics

  • Preventing failures during heavy data transfers
