# How to Load Marketing Data into BigQuery with Dataslayer

## Learn how to connect marketing data sources, configure a BigQuery transfer, and automate data updates with Dataslayer.

### Before You Start

Dataslayer helps you load advertising, analytics, CRM and ecommerce data into BigQuery. BigQuery is a cloud data warehouse where you can store historical marketing data, keep it available for analysis and use it in reporting tools such as Data Studio.

With Dataslayer, you can connect a data source, select the accounts and fields you need, and transfer the data to BigQuery without building the integration manually.

If you do not have a Dataslayer account yet, [create one here](https://app.dataslayer.ai/) and select BigQuery from the **Destinations** section.

#### What You Need

Before creating a BigQuery transfer, make sure you have:

- A Dataslayer account with BigQuery enabled as a destination.
- Access to the advertising, analytics, CRM or ecommerce platform you want to connect.
- The permissions required to authorize Dataslayer and access the source data.
- Access to the Google account and BigQuery project that will receive the data.
- A clear idea of the accounts, date range, metrics and dimensions you want to transfer.

If you need help preparing your BigQuery project or dataset, review your Google Cloud permissions before starting the transfer.

### How to Load Marketing Data into BigQuery

Follow these steps to create a transfer from a marketing data source to BigQuery.

#### Open the BigQuery Product in Dataslayer

1. Log in to [Dataslayer BigQuery](https://app.dataslayer.ai/transfer-query/bigquery).

2. Open the BigQuery product dashboard.
3. Review your existing transfers or click **New transfer** to create one.
![Dataslayer BigQuery dashboard showing existing transfers and the New transfer button.](https://support.dataslayer.ai/hs-fs/hubfs/Browser%20template%20(12)-Sep-23-2026-03-29-22-9005-PM.png?width=670&height=246&name=Browser%20template%20(12)-Sep-23-2026-03-29-22-9005-PM.png)

#### Create a New Transfer

1. Click **New transfer**.
2. Choose the data source you want to connect.
![Dataslayer BigQuery setup screen for selecting a marketing data source.](https://support.dataslayer.ai/hs-fs/hubfs/Browser%20template%20(13)-3.png?width=670&height=246&name=Browser%20template%20(13)-3.png)
3. Sign in with the account associated with that data source.
4. Authorize Dataslayer if the platform requests permission.

Dataslayer supports integrations with advertising, analytics, CRM and ecommerce platforms. For example, you can use the same workflow to send Google Ads, Facebook Ads or Google Analytics data to BigQuery.

#### Select the Accounts You Want to Transfer

1. Select the accounts, properties, pages or workspaces that contain the data you need.
2. Choose only the accounts you want to include in the transfer.
3. Continue to the data configuration screen.

If an account is missing, check that you authorized the correct user and that the connected platform account is accessible from the same login.

#### Choose the Data to Export

Configure the data that Dataslayer will load into BigQuery:

1. Select the date range.
2. Choose the metrics you want to measure.
![Dataslayer data configuration screen showing date range, metrics, dimensions and filters.](https://support.dataslayer.ai/hs-fs/hubfs/Browser%20template%20(15)-3.png?width=670&height=246&name=Browser%20template%20(15)-3.png)
3. Choose the dimensions you want to use to group the data.
4. Add filters if you only want to transfer specific campaigns, accounts or records.

You can start with one account and a short date range to test the connection. Once the transfer works as expected, expand the configuration to include the rest of your historical or recurring data.

#### Use a Dataslayer Template

If the data source includes a ready-made configuration, you can use a Dataslayer template instead of selecting every field manually.

1. Open the template selector.
2. Choose the template that matches your reporting needs.
3. Review the selected metrics, dimensions and filters.
4. Adjust the configuration if you need different fields or accounts.

For more information, see [How the templates feature works in Dataslayer for BigQuery and API Query Manager](https://support.dataslayer.ai/understanding-the-templates-feature-in-dataslayer-for-bigquery-and-api-query-manager?hsLang=en).

### Configure the BigQuery Destination

After configuring the source data, select the Google account and BigQuery destination where Dataslayer will write the data.

#### Select the BigQuery Account

1. Select the Google account that has access to the BigQuery project.
2. Click **Transfer Data** to continue.
![Dataslayer BigQuery account selection screen with the Transfer Data button.](https://support.dataslayer.ai/hs-fs/hubfs/Browser%20template%20(14)-3.png?width=670&height=246&name=Browser%20template%20(14)-3.png)
3. Complete the BigQuery destination fields shown in the configuration form.

#### Complete the BigQuery Fields

Complete the destination fields shown in the BigQuery configuration screen:

- **Transfer Name:** enter an internal name for the transfer. This name is visible in Dataslayer but is not transferred to BigQuery.
- **Timezone:** select the timezone that should be used for the transfer.
- **Project:** select the Google Cloud project where the data will be stored.
- **Dataset or New Dataset Name:** select an existing dataset or enter the name of a new dataset. These options are mutually exclusive.
- **Database Table:** enter the name of the BigQuery table. You do not need to create the table beforehand.
- **Write Mode:** choose whether to append new rows, replace the existing table data or upsert the data.
![Dataslayer BigQuery destination settings showing the transfer name, timezone, project, dataset, table and write mode.](https://support.dataslayer.ai/hs-fs/hubfs/Browser%20template%20(17)-1.png?width=670&height=246&name=Browser%20template%20(17)-1.png)

#### Choose a Write Mode

Select how Dataslayer should write the data to the BigQuery table:

- **Append:** adds new rows to the existing table. This is the most commonly used option.
- **Replace:** deletes the data previously imported into the table and replaces it with the new data.
- **Upsert:** updates existing data and adds new rows. This option can take longer because Dataslayer also updates previously imported data.

#### Preview the Data Before Uploading

After completing the source and destination configuration, use the preview option to check how the table will look before uploading the data to BigQuery. The preview displays up to 200 rows and does not consume your monthly row limit.

### Choose the BigQuery Transfer Frequency

Choose how Dataslayer should send data to BigQuery. The available modes are designed for different reporting workflows.

#### Scheduled Transfers

Use a scheduled transfer when you want Dataslayer to refresh the data automatically. Choose the schedule, time and other available frequency settings shown in the configuration screen.

#### Manual Transfers

Use the manual mode when you want to decide when a transfer runs. After making changes to the configuration, click **Save & refresh** when you want to update the data.

![Dataslayer BigQuery frequency settings for scheduled, manual and manually split transfers.](https://support.dataslayer.ai/hs-fs/hubfs/Browser%20template%20(16)-2.png?width=670&height=246&name=Browser%20template%20(16)-2.png)

#### Manually Split Transfers

Use the manually split mode when you need to upload a large date range or a large amount of data. This option requires a date dimension in your configuration.

Dataslayer divides the transfer into smaller stages so the data can be processed in separate requests. Click **Confirm changes** to save the configuration and start the staged upload.

### Confirm the BigQuery Transfer

1. Review the data source, selected accounts, fields and destination settings.
2. Choose the transfer frequency.
3. Click **Confirm changes**.
4. If you selected the manual frequency mode, click **Save & refresh** when you want to run the transfer.

Once the transfer runs, Dataslayer will send the selected data to your BigQuery destination. You can then query the data in BigQuery or connect it to reporting and visualization tools such as Data Studio.

### How to Upload Historical Data into BigQuery

You can use Dataslayer to transfer historical marketing data to BigQuery when you need to build a longer reporting history or populate a new data warehouse.

1. Open an existing transfer or create a new one.
2. Choose the historical date range you want to import.
3. Select the required accounts, metrics and dimensions.
4. Choose a frequency mode that matches the size of the transfer.
5. Confirm the configuration and monitor the transfer.
