How to make a simple query?

Don't know how to start making simple queries with Dataslayer yet? We are going to explain it to you in this article.

Don't worry, we are going to explain to you how to do it both in Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel. Once you have  installed Dataslayer, you can make simple queries in a few seconds by following these steps:

1.1 Once you have installed the Dataslayer add-in, open a new MS Excel document, go to the Dataslayer tab, and click on the Launch sidebar button.

1.2 Once you have downloaded Dataslayer, open a Google Sheets document and click on extensions > Launch Sidebar.

Now that you have the Dataslayer opened, follow the steps below that are the same for Google Sheets extension and MS Excel add-in.

2. First, you have to select the data source you want to work with.

  • For this example, we will select Google Ads.

3. After that, you have to select the account you want to extract data from.

The number of accounts you can select depends on your plan. To learn more, please check out this article.

4. Next, you have to select the date range that you want to work with and the metrics and dimensions you want to upload.

  • In this case, we will select this month to date.

You can type the words "today" or "yesterday" in the date field. Learn more about custom date tricks here.

  • For the metrics we will select "clicks" and "impressions", and for dimensions "date", for example.


5. Finally, set some advanced options if needed, select the cell where you want to insert your data and click on generate table.

And that's it!, in a few seconds you will have all your data in Google Sheets so you can work with it.

If you want to modify the query once it has been created, you only have to click anywhere on the data table, and in our extension, you will see several editing options. In this FAQ we explain it further.
