Surely, you have found an error within your Looker Studio report but it's complicated to know what it means. This article has been created to guide you through each of them!
Looker Studio is a powerful tool for creating interactive and insightful dashboards. However, like any data visualization platform, it’s not immune to errors that can disrupt your workflow. Common issues include broken data connections, slow dashboard performance, incorrect visualizations, and access permission problems.
Understanding the root causes and knowing how to troubleshoot effectively can save you time and ensure your dashboards deliver accurate and meaningful insights.
In this guide, we’ll explore some of the most frequent challenges in Looker Studio and provide practical solutions to help you overcome them.
- Missing Data Source
This error indicates that the data source has been removed from your report. To resolve this issue, navigate to Resources > Manage added data sources. If the connector is listed, we recommend removing it and then re-adding the connection. If the connector does not appear, simply click on "Add a data source" to re-establish the connection. - Invalid Login
If you encounter an "Invalid login" error message in Looker Studio, it could be due to your account not being registered in Dataslayer, or you may be using a different account to log in than the one associated with Dataslayer.
To resolve this issue, ensure that the email account you are using to log into Looker Studio is the same one registered in Dataslayer. Please, refer to this article where we explain how to fix it. -
Bad Request
This error is not related to Dataslayer. It is a Google error that happens when you have different accounts logged in.

We've created this article to guide you through this error message. -
This error message indicates that your credentials have expired, and you will need to reauthenticate them to restore access by following these steps. - Selected more accounts than allowed
If you encounter this error, it likely means that you have selected more accounts than your current plan permits.
To resolve this issue, you have two options: consider upgrading your plan to accommodate all the accounts you wish to connect or return to the data source configuration to adjust the selection to fit within your plan's limits. - API Calls limit
If you come across this error, it indicates that you have reached the daily limit for API calls allowed under your current plan.
To resolve this, you have two options: you can either upgrade your plan to increase your daily API call limit or wait until 00:00 UTC, when the API call limits reset for the next day. - Invalid parameters combination
This error typically occurs when you attempt to combine metrics and dimensions that are incompatible with each other.
Please, refer to this article where we explain how to solve this. -
Data source improperly configured
This error often occurs due to an incorrectly configured data source or when a Looker Studio refresh fails to properly update the widget/chart after changing the data source.
To solve this, we suggest reviewing the setup with the correct data source and metric/dimensions selected. -
Looker Studio cannot connect to your data set
This happens when Looker Studio cannot find the underlying data sources and can be caused by several issues, such as the data source is not attached or the underlying data changed.
To fix this, first confirm that the data source is correctly selected in the Setup. Then, refresh the data source's fields by following these steps.
If the error persists, remove the data source from the report and add it again by selecting the correct Hub Account and the Account you'd like to pull data from and any additional configuration needed. Connect the widgets to the data source and done, the error message should disappear! -
